A Survey of Music Therapy Goals and the Present State of Intervention Applications through the Main Clients of Music Therapists

Abstract
This study is designed to investigate the purpose of music therapy and the present state of interventional applications through the main clients of active music therapists in Korea. This research is based on the survey of 148 music therapists who have at least Bachelor¡¯s degree. The result is as follows. First, it is shown that there are differences with main clients depend on music therapists¡¯ educational background and their philosophy. Second, the satisfaction of the sessions and surrounding environment of therapists turn out to be above an average. Third, the main symptom of children is autism spectrum disorders. The purpose of the therapy is for improving in communication throughout singing a song. Most teenagers are suffering from emotional and behavioral disorders. The goal of the therapy is to improve a communication skills throughout listening to music. For the adults are Schizophrenia. The main purpose of the treatment is to provide pleasure through re-creative playing. In case of elderly people are suffering dementia. The therapy is to help enhance emotional wellness throughout singing a song. Last, there is no significant differences with therapists¡¯ difficulty or consideration according to main clients. However, the most difficult part for the therapists is the things that related to clients. This result, indicates that the therapists consider, the relavant things with their clients, as the most challengeable task and also the key factor of the biggest satisfaction of their career.
